In 2006, I was 9 years old and in the 4th grade.
was the hot social platform for kids at the time, one of the first of its kind.
You could play games, chat with other penguins, and buy stuff to decorate your igloo.
Even have a made-up pet called a Puffle.
Pretty sick setup.
Some of my classmates wanted to get online after school and hang, so I made an account that afternoon.
My username was filet89
Because I had eaten filet mignon for the first time recently and I thought it sounded cool.
89 seemed like a cool number for a wide receiver or tight end on a football team
(shoutout Chad Lewis, former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl tight end).
So once I logged on, with all that freedom at my fingertips, what did I do?
I said fuck
A lot.
Like, a day long ban turned into a week long ban eventually turned into a 50+ year ban.
I've always been bold and outspoken.
but over the last 2 decades I've expanded my vocabulary and harnessed that passionate voice.
Time and place for everything, I guess.
I’ve learned how to communicate with wit and tact, not just for shock value.
I’ve learned how to not only grab attention, but how to hold it.
But that same fun-loving spirit remains -
always smiling, laughing, thinking, pulling references out of nowhere, and trying to get others to do the same.
That's what drove me to a career in advertising.
Outside of the box thinking. With some much needed structure.
Seeing what makes someone tick, and targeting it strategically.
